Zhejiang’s Green Initiative: State Grid’s Role in Promoting Renewable Energy

State Grid’s Green Initiative Enhances Prosperity in Zhejiang

Under the radiance of the spring sun, photovoltaic panels in Tangyuan, Zhejiang Province, resemble glistening gold. The village of over 800 residents, situated in the picturesque prefecture-level city of Quzhou, embarked on its solar energy journey in 2020, yielding an annual income of approximately 50,000 yuan ($6,963) per villager by supplying electricity to the grid.

Driven by China’s commitment to peak carbon emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, Zhejiang, echoing its renowned environmental ethos, is embracing green initiatives. State Grid’s Quzhou Electric Power Co, the world’s largest utility, is at the forefront of this transformative endeavor, aiming to enhance environmental sustainability while fostering economic growth.

Zero-Carbon Ventures Transforming Communities

Quzhou Electric Power Co has mobilized a zero-carbon service team, embarking on projects that promise to make communities “greener, richer, and more beautiful.” These ventures encompass the erection and management of photovoltaic facilities, modernizing power infrastructure, expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and promoting eco-friendly accommodations tailored to local contexts.

Empowering Local Communities with Sustainable Solutions

Wang Qi, director of Qingyang substation, exemplifies this commitment through the establishment of village-level photovoltaic power stations in Tangyuan. These projects have earned national and provincial subsidies, underscoring their viability and impact.

In Tangyuankou’s Hongfu village, emphasis is placed on enhancing local homestays, with support from Quzhou Electric Power Co to upgrade power lines, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the surroundings.

Accelerating Green Transportation and Accommodations

In Xintangbian, the installation of charging infrastructure for new energy vehicles (NEVs) marks a significant stride towards sustainable mobility. Villagers, like Li Quanping, attest to the newfound convenience and confidence in embracing NEVs.

Deputy Secretary-General Zhou Xiangjun outlines Zhejiang’s ambitious plans to construct over 2.3 million charging stations by 2025, underscoring the province’s commitment to sustainable transportation infrastructure.

Expanding Green Practices Across Zhejiang

Beyond Tangyuan, Wuyi County and Liandu District are spearheading green initiatives, advocating for cleaner air and promoting renewable energy adoption. The expansion of NEV charging stations and the proliferation of solar energy infrastructure underscore Zhejiang’s unwavering commitment to a greener future.
