United Rentals Launches Tower Crane Battery Energy Systems in North America

United Rentals, Inc. (NYSE: URI), the world’s largest equipment rental company, unveils its latest innovation: battery energy systems for tower cranes in North America. Developed in partnership with Termaco, this sustainable solution aims to reduce fuel consumption, downtime, and emissions on job sites.

Enhancing Sustainability with Clean Power

The newly introduced battery energy systems provide a clean and sustainable alternative to traditional power sources for tower cranes. Configurable up to 500kW, these systems operate alongside generators, storing energy in lithium batteries to minimize fuel consumption and emissions while ensuring uninterrupted power supply.

“This solution underscores United Rentals’ commitment to practical sustainability on job sites,” said Larry Worthington, Region Vice President, Power and HVAC, United Rentals. “By integrating innovative products like battery energy systems, we empower contractors to achieve their environmental and economic objectives.”

Real-world Success: Award Construction Case Study

Award Construction, based in Alberta, Canada, demonstrated the effectiveness of the United Rentals battery energy system at the Riverbank Landing construction site. By fully powering an 8-ton tower crane with battery energy, Award Construction achieved a remarkable 91% reduction in generator runtime and an 80% decrease in fuel consumption and emissions.

“Sustainable building is integral to our company values. Powering our tower crane with battery energy showcases our commitment to environmental stewardship,” stated Brian Hennessey, Construction Manager, Award Construction.

A Step Towards Sustainability

The introduction of tower crane battery energy systems aligns with United Rentals’ dedication to offering low and zero-emission solutions. As the construction industry embraces sustainable practices, United Rentals continues to lead the charge in providing innovative, eco-friendly equipment and services.
