UL Solutions Certifies Alpitronic’s 400 kW EV Charger in Europe, Marking Major Milestone for Fast Charging

UL Certification Paves the Way for Alpitronic’s Entry into North American Market

UL Solutions, a global leader in applied safety science, has achieved a significant milestone by certifying the Alpitronic HYC400, a 400-kilowatt (kW) electric vehicle (EV) charger. This is the first 400 kW EV charger in Europe to receive UL certification, specifically to UL 2202 standards for DC Charging Equipment for Electric Vehicles. This certification highlights UL Solutions’ role in supporting the growing demand for high-power, fast-charging EV systems and marks Alpitronic’s formal entry into the North American market.

Fast Charging Capabilities and Safety Compliance

The Alpitronic HYC400 was rigorously evaluated at UL Solutions’ EV Charging Test Center in Neu-Isenburg, Germany, where it underwent compliance testing for safety and performance requirements, including power verification, temperature control, and high-voltage management. It also passed personnel protection system testing in accordance with UL 2231, ensuring safe operation for users. Fast chargers like the HYC400 can significantly reduce EV charging time, addressing a major hurdle for widespread EV adoption.

Milan Dotlich, Vice President and General Manager of the Energy and Industrial Automation Group at UL Solutions, emphasized the importance of this certification, stating, “We are proud to play a part in Alpitronic’s journey to meet the demand for higher power and faster charging speeds in EV charging equipment.”

Growing Global Demand for EV Charging Infrastructure

As governments worldwide implement policies to increase EV adoption by 2030, the demand for fast-charging infrastructure has grown rapidly. From 2014 to 2024, the number of public charging stations has surged, driven by rising EV sales and a focus on improving the accessibility of charging networks. UL Solutions is committed to supporting this growth through its global network of EV charging test centers.

Phillip Senoner, Co-founder and CEO of Alpitronic, praised the achievement, stating, “Certification to UL 2202 for the HYC400 gives our partners confidence that this equipment delivers as promised regarding safety and performance.”

Global Network of Test Facilities

UL Solutions operates a comprehensive network of EV and battery testing laboratories around the world, including facilities in Germany, Spain, North America, China, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. This global network supports the rapid development and adoption of electric mobility by ensuring the safety and performance of charging technologies.
