TurningPoint Energy and Pivot Energy to Develop 16.6 MWdc Community Solar Portfolio in Maryland

TurningPoint Energy (TPE) and Pivot Energy join forces to develop six community solar projects in Maryland, totaling 16.6 MWdc of solar capacity. The projects, in Howard, Prince George’s, and Garrett counties, are set to commence construction in 2024.

Development Under Maryland’s Community Solar Pilot Program:

Leading Developer: TPE developed the projects under Maryland’s Community Solar Pilot Program, with three situated in a census tract affected by recent coal closures.

Expansion Plans: TPE’s Maryland community solar portfolio aims for over 40 MWdc by the end of 2025, anticipating the state’s permanent community solar program legislation.

Partnership Dynamics:

Acquisition and Ownership: Pivot Energy assumes long-term ownership, oversees construction, and manages ongoing performance.

Community Solar Platform: Pivot utilizes its SunCentral platform to acquire and manage customer subscriptions, allowing eligible utility customers to join with no upfront costs.

Positive Impact on Local Communities:

Job Creation: The projects contribute to local economies, creating construction and operational jobs and supporting local businesses in legal, permitting, engineering, and construction activities.

Community Investments: TPE and Pivot commit $120,000 in planned donations to local organizations, demonstrating their commitment to community welfare.

Clean Energy and Subscriber Benefits:

Clean Energy Output: Once completed, the projects will generate approximately 20 million kWh annually, contributing to Maryland’s renewable energy goals.

Subscriber Base: More than 450 residential and small commercial subscribers within utility territories of BGE, Potomac Edison, and Pepco will benefit from clean energy.

Charitable Community Investments:

Unique Commitment: TPE and Pivot stand out by committing to charitable community investments in each community where they operate.

Planned Donations: The partnership pledges $120,000 to local organizations, building on TPE’s history of over $186,000 in community investment across Maryland since 2016.

The collaboration between TPE and Pivot Energy underscores their commitment to advancing community solar and making a positive impact on both the environment and local communities.
