Trinasolar Expands Advanced Solar Energy Solutions in Thailand

Trinasolar’s Strategic Expansion into Thailand’s Solar Market

Trinasolar, a global leader in smart photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage solutions, has announced its strategic expansion into Thailand’s renewable energy sector. Leveraging nearly three decades of experience, Trinasolar introduces cutting-edge solar modules, trackers, and energy storage systems to various sectors, including utilities, commercial, industrial, and residential projects. Robust Solar + Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are pivotal to Thailand’s energy commitments.

Supporting Thailand’s Clean Energy Goals

According to Thailand’s Power Development Plan (PDP), renewable energy is projected to rise to 51%, significantly up from 20% last year, with solar energy expected to account for about 70% of this increase. Additionally, the PDP’s Demand Response measures encourage consumers to adjust electricity usage based on varying prices, aiming to reduce peak demand.

The country’s Smart Grid plan targets a reduction of 1,000 megawatts in peak demand and an additional 1,000 megawatts through Distributed Energy Resources (DER). These resources, including small power generation systems and BESS, will be integrated into microgrid systems, providing reliable energy.

Trinasolar’s Innovative Projects and Solutions

Trinasolar’s projects in Thailand include the Hydro-Floating Solar Hybrid initiative, combining solar and hydroelectric power from dams. This project aims to build 16 installations nationwide with a total capacity of 2,725 megawatts (MW). Pilot projects at Sirindhorn Dam and Ubonrat Dam are already operational with capacities of 45 MW and 24 MW AC, respectively.

Dave Wang, Sub-Region Head for Asia Pacific at Trinasolar, highlighted the significance of Thailand’s clean energy policies and Trinasolar’s role in lowering solar energy costs. The company’s Vertex N panels, which combine n-type i-TOPCon and 210mm wafer size technologies, deliver record-setting power output and higher efficiency. Trinasolar’s comprehensive solutions, including solar panels, trackers, and energy storage, ensure system stability and cost-effectiveness.

In March 2024, Trinasolar implemented a 24 MW AC floating solar plant at Ubonrat Dam, expected to cut CO2 emissions by 41,000 tons and generate 46 million kWh of electricity annually. This project supports approximately 18,000 homes and represents Trinasolar’s commitment to innovative solar energy solutions.

Future Prospects and Initiatives

Trinasolar prioritizes floating solar solutions and energy storage systems to support Thailand’s renewable energy initiatives. Floating solar farms maximize space and benefit from water’s cooling effect, gaining popularity worldwide.

Trinasolar will showcase its latest solar solutions at the ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week (ASEW) in Bangkok. Highlights include the Vertex N series modules, the upgraded TrinaTracker Vanguard 1P, and the 5MWh Elementa 2 energy storage solution featuring Trina’s proprietary 314Ah LFP cell.
