Synetiq and Allye Partner to Repurpose Salvaged EV Batteries for Energy Storage

Synetiq, the UK’s premier vehicle salvage company, has joined forces with Allye Energy to transform salvaged electric vehicle (EV) battery packs into efficient energy storage systems.

Allye plans to acquire and test EV packs from Synetiq, a unit of Canada’s RB Global group, for its 300 kWh battery storage system. Each system utilizes four salvaged EV battery packs, capable of powering a factory or 50 homes for a day. The packs will be leased to customers, contributing to sustainable energy solutions.

Addressing Challenges in EV Battery Recycling

Due to limited access to data for assessing EV battery pack damage post-accidents, insurers often write off low-mileage electric cars. The partnership aims to repurpose salvaged EV battery packs that are currently underutilized, presenting an innovative approach to battery recycling.

Environmental and Cost Benefits

Reusing entire EV battery packs reduces carbon emissions in storage systems by 60% compared to new ones. This sustainable practice can also lower customers’ energy bills by 50%, utilizing energy from the grid during off-peak hours for peak demand periods.

Future Expansion and Funding Goals

Allye envisions using 5,000 packs annually in the UK, with plans for expansion into other markets. Having raised nearly £1 million ($1.3 million) to date, Allye is actively seeking additional funds to support its growth and sustainability initiatives.
