Statkraft Aims for Three Gigawatts of Renewable Energy in Ireland by 2030

Ambitious Renewable Energy Roadmap

Statkraft, the Norwegian government-owned energy group, plans to develop approximately three gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy projects in Ireland by 2030.

Diverse Portfolio and Offshore Wind Farm

The roadmap includes 1.5GW of recently built or under-construction projects, 330MW of planned projects backed by government schemes or power purchase agreements, and a 500MW offshore wind farm off the coast of Dublin, Meath, and Louth.

Robust Planning and Land Acquisition

Statkraft has secured land to submit 200-250MW of projects annually for planning permission over the next three to four years. The company currently has 400MW of projects with planning permission and 375MW awaiting authorization.

Aligning with National Renewable Goals

The three-gigawatt target aligns with the Irish government’s aim to generate 80% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030. Statkraft entered the Irish market in 2018 and, if successful, will become one of the largest operators in the country.
