China’s First Megawatt-Hour-Level Aqueous Sodium-Ion Battery Enters Production
In a significant development, China’s first megawatt-hour-level aqueous sodium-ion battery has successfully completed testing and is now in the production phase. This achievement marks a milestone in the aqueous sodium-ion battery energy storage demonstration project located in the Shannan High-tech Zone, Huainan, Anhui province.
Pioneering Project Led by State Grid
Led by the State Grid Huainan Power Supply Company, this project stands as one of the 56 new energy storage pilot demonstration projects recognized by the National Energy Administration. It utilizes the country’s pioneering megawatt-hour-level aqueous ion energy storage device, employing neutral salt aqueous electrolyte. Upon its completion, the project aims to validate the entire domestically developed technological chain for aqueous ion batteries in China.
Driving High-Quality Development
This endeavor not only accelerates research and application of aqueous sodium-ion batteries but also propels the high-quality development of upstream and downstream enterprises and relevant emerging industries. A recent development transformation conference in Huainan witnessed a manufacturer of aqueous sodium-ion batteries signing a project contract on-site. This initiative is poised to enhance the layout of upstream and downstream enterprises in the new energy storage industry, thus fostering the high-quality development of Huainan city.
State Grid’s Commitment to Technological Advancement
In alignment with China’s strategic focus on developing new quality productive forces, the State Grid Huainan Power Supply Company vows to advance the construction of a robust grid driven by digital tools. It aims to conduct comprehensive tracking and evaluation of new energy storage pilot projects while continuously researching key technologies for new energy storage.
The completion of China’s first megawatt-hour-level aqueous sodium-ion battery signifies a leap forward in the nation’s pursuit of cutting-edge energy storage solutions, positioning Huainan as a hub for high-tech innovation in the renewable energy sector.
