Major Solar Energy Investment in Holderness
A new solar farm, capable of powering thousands of homes, could soon be built on farmland in Holderness. Enviromena Project Management UK Ltd has submitted plans for the 500,000 square meter (5.4 million square feet) development. The proposed site is located between Burstwick and Burton Pidsea.
Significant Energy Output and Additional Benefits
The solar farm is projected to produce approximately 35 megawatts (MW) of electricity annually, enough to power over 18,300 homes. Additionally, the site could support light livestock grazing and beekeeping, showcasing innovative uses for agricultural land. An independent assessment found the land to be of moderate or poor quality for arable farming, supporting its conversion to solar energy use.
Economic and Environmental Impact
The project, seeking a 40-year planning permission from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, aims to enhance the local economy by creating around 245 jobs during construction and within the supply chain. This estimate is based on research by the BRE National Solar Centre. The site will include CCTV cameras and security fences to ensure safety and security.
Promoting Renewable Energy and Green Energy Policies
This development aligns with ongoing trends in the solar energy market, emphasizing the importance of renewable energy and green energy policies. As the demand for sustainable energy solutions increases, such projects contribute to the growth of the solar energy market and advancements in solar technology.
