The Chairman and Managing Director, N Balram, directed officials to send a team to Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, and other states to study solar projects and explore commercial and joint venture opportunities. The move comes as part of SCCL’s commitment to renewable energy initiatives, aiming to contribute to the growth of solar power beyond Telangana.

Solar Project Progress and Targets

During a recent review meeting, Balram emphasized the completion of the remaining 76 megawatts of the 300 megawatts solar plants planned in the first phase by the end of March. He also urged officials to expedite the tender process for the second phase, which involves 232 megawatts of solar plants. Additionally, he encouraged the exploration of solar plant installations on water reservoirs and canals across the state.

Solar Contribution to the Grid

SCCL has made significant strides in solar energy production, with completed solar plants generating 852 million units of electricity. The power generated from the 224-megawatt solar plants has been integrated into the grid, contributing to the region’s renewable energy capacity. The company is dedicated to advancing its solar initiatives, with a focus on sustainable energy solutions.

Coal Production and Naini Coal Block Operations

In addition to its commitment to solar energy, SCCL is actively engaged in coal production. Balram provided updates on the coal production front, highlighting the upcoming visit of Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka to Odisha. The visit aims to address and expedite the approval process for the Naini Coal Block, which holds the potential for significant coal production. Once operational, the Naini Coal Block could play a crucial role in meeting coal demand in the region.

Balram expressed optimism about the progress and outlined the production targets for new mines slated to begin operations in the current financial year. The company is strategically aligning its efforts to balance traditional energy sources with a growing focus on renewable energy, showcasing its commitment to sustainability and diversification.
