Singareni Collieries Company (SCCL) is gearing up to finalize 232 MW solar plants in its second phase. However, it faces a daunting challenge in completing the remaining 55.5 MW from the proposed 300 MW capacity of the first phase due to delays caused by various reasons.
Challenges and Progress of First Phase
The first phase of the project, initially set for completion by December 2023, encountered delays, missing several deadlines. Despite completing 224 MW, including 5 MW of floating solar plants, the remaining 76 MW faced setbacks. In February, SCCL managed to finish a 10.5 MW solar plant in Ramavaram, Kothagudem town, leaving 55.5 MW under construction. SCCL’s Chief (E&M) Power Projects, NVK Viswanadha Raju, assures completion of pending plants by August.
Distribution of First Phase Projects
The pending 76 MW projects encompass a 22 MW plant on an overburden dump in Ramagundam-3, a 22.5 MW plant, and a 10.5 MW solar plant in the Kothagudem area, an 11 MW plant in Chennur, and a 22 MW plant on an open-cast-1 site.
Handover of Mandamarri Solar Power Project
SCCL delegated the 67.5 MW solar power project in Mandamarri to Bondada Engineering, an infrastructure EPC company. The project entails comprehensive responsibilities, including design, engineering, construction, erection, testing, commissioning, and establishing a 220 KV transmission system. Bondada will oversee operation and maintenance for ten years.
Second Phase Expansion Plans
In the upcoming second phase, SCCL intends to establish a 67.5 MW plant in 240 acres in Mandamarri, a 37 MW plant on a 166-acre overburden dump in Ramagundam area, and a 27.5 MW plant in 96 acres in Srirampur area.
Completion of the Singareni solar projects signifies a significant step towards augmenting solar energy production and aligning with green energy policies, fostering sustainable energy development in the region.
