Sharp Corp. announced on September 6 that it plans to enter the electric vehicle (EV) market, with the goal of launching its own EV in the near future. The company will leverage an EV platform developed by its parent company, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., to build its vehicles.
Introducing the LDK+ Concept Model
The announcement was made during a briefing for the upcoming Sharp Tech-Day ’24 Innovation Showcase, which kicks off on September 17. At the event, Sharp will unveil a concept EV model named the LDK+, designed to demonstrate the company’s vision for the future of mobility.
AIoT Integration and Sustainable Energy Features
The LDK+ concept vehicle will feature AIoT technology, integrating artificial intelligence (AI) with the Internet of Things (IoT). It will also be equipped with solar cells and storage batteries, allowing it to manage home electricity for the owner.
Transforming the Vehicle into a Mobile Theater Room
A standout feature is the large LCD screen mounted in the rear of the vehicle. The back seats can rotate to transform the car into a theater room, showcasing how the vehicle can serve as a functional space even when not in motion.
Mototaka Taneya, Sharp’s Senior Managing Executive Officer, emphasized this innovative approach by stating, “The EV is considered a room, and the ‘LDK+’ is meant to create value even when the vehicle is not in motion.”
