Selex Motors and Samsung SDI Join Forces for Electric Vehicle Battery Advancements

Strategic Partnership for Electric Motorcycle Batteries

In a significant development, Vietnamese electric motorbike manufacturer, Selex Motors, and Samsung SDI, a subsidiary of Samsung Corporation known for mobile phone battery production, have inked a strategic partnership on February 23. The collaboration aims to jointly develop and supply electric vehicle (EV) batteries.

Samsung SDI as the Strategic Battery Supplier

Samsung SDI will serve as the strategic battery cell supplier for Selex Motors, focusing on producing electric motorcycle batteries for Selex’s smart electric motorcycle ecosystem. Moreover, Selex Motors plans to leverage Samsung SDI cells to develop and supply battery packs to other partners in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

Establishing a Battery Exchange Network

The collaboration extends beyond manufacturing as the two entities envision establishing a battery exchange network. This network, pioneered by Selex Motors, is poised to become a shared piece of energy infrastructure in Vietnam and the wider Southeast Asian region.

Selex Motors’ Technological Prowess and International Recognition

Established in 2018, Selex Motors has quickly garnered international esteem for its technological capabilities. Last July, it was the sole Vietnamese company visited by the US Secretary of the Treasury during her Vietnam trip. Selex Motors is also a preferred choice for major tech companies like Grab, Lazada, Gojek, and ShopeeFood.

Advancing Sustainable Development in EVs

Selex Motors, aspiring to be the “Hyundai of Vietnam,” focuses on sustainable development through intelligent electric vehicles and renewable energy. With expertise in battery technology and over 80% domestic production components, Selex Motors is a pioneering force in the Vietnamese electric motorcycle landscape.

Samsung SDI, a leading global battery manufacturer committed to renewable energy, spent over a year evaluating Selex Motors’ technological capabilities, production lines, and development potential before entering this collaboration. This partnership is expected to contribute significantly to the evolution of electric vehicle technology in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
