Under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s leadership, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has launched an innovative solar energy project. Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO inaugurated seven solar trees, each with a 5 kW capacity, in Patiala on Wednesday. This initiative aims to enhance the solar energy market and promote green energy policies in the region.
Solar Trees: A Unique Energy Solution
The solar trees, installed at PSPCL’s head office and various power colonies in Patiala, are designed to harness solar energy efficiently. These structures, which resemble trees, offer a clean and renewable energy source, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
Environmental Impact and Educational Value
Minister Harbhajan Singh highlighted the environmental benefits of these solar trees. They are expected to generate around 52,000 units of electricity annually, saving approximately 41 tons of CO2 emissions per year. This reduction is equivalent to planting about 1,015 mature trees. Additionally, the solar trees serve as educational tools, raising awareness about renewable energy and sustainability.
Advantages in Urban Environments
The solar trees’ design not only enhances the visual appeal of public spaces but also optimizes space utilization. Unlike traditional solar panels, solar trees occupy less ground space, making them ideal for urban areas with limited space. Their elevated position allows for better sunlight capture, avoiding shadows and obstructions.
Multifunctional and Sustainable Energy Solution
Overall, these solar trees represent a multifunctional and sustainable approach to solar energy generation. They blend technology, aesthetics, and environmental benefits, showcasing a modern method for promoting solar technology developments.
Notable attendees at the inauguration included Er. Baldev Singh Sran, CMD PSPCL, Er. DPS Grewal, Director Distribution, Er. Paramjeet Singh, Director Generation, Er. Ravinder Singh Saini, Director Commercial, CA. S K Beri, Director Finance, and S. Jasbir Singh Sur Singh, Director Admin.
By embracing such innovative solar technology, Punjab is setting a precedent in the energy market for sustainable development and green energy policies.
