Power Division Refutes Claims of Taxing Solar Consumers

Clarification on Taxation Reports

The Ministry of Energy’s Power Division (MEPD) has dismissed circulating reports regarding the imposition of a fixed tax on solar power installations. According to Radio Pakistan, the Power Division refuted claims suggesting the implementation of a tax on residential and commercial solar users.

Denial of Tax Proposal

Contrary to social media rumors, the Power Division stated that neither the Central Power Purchasing Agency nor the division had submitted any proposal to tax solar power consumers. The division emphasized the absence of truth in these reports, providing clarity on the matter.

Promotion of Alternative Energy

Highlighting the significance of the Net Metering Policy of 2017, the Power Division reiterated its commitment to promoting alternative energy sources. Despite rapid solarization, the division assured ongoing considerations for proposals and amendments aimed at alleviating burdens on consumers.

Protection of Consumer Investments

Addressing concerns about potential impacts on consumers, the Power Division affirmed its commitment to safeguarding the interests of net metering consumers. With an estimated 150,000 to 200,000 consumers, efforts are underway to protect their investments and prevent further financial strain.

The Power Division’s rebuttal of reports regarding the taxation of solar power consumers underscores the government’s commitment to promoting renewable energy initiatives while ensuring consumer protection and affordability. As discussions progress, stakeholders remain focused on fostering a conducive environment for the sustainable growth of solar energy adoption.
