Pioneering Electric Dreams: Team Envision’s Journey Towards Revolutionizing Urban Transportation in Pakistan

In 2009, a group of students at Pakistan Navy Engineering College (PNEC-NUST) embarked on a journey that would reshape the future of urban transportation in Pakistan. Driven by the desire to innovate and compete globally, they formed Team Envision with a mission to design and build energy-efficient vehicles. As Sadus Rizwan, a founding member, recalls, “We were driven by the opportunity to participate in the Shell Eco-Marathon for the very first time.”

Over the years, Team Envision evolved from a small university project into a powerhouse of innovation. They built 17 cars, consistently representing Pakistan in international competitions and earning accolades for their cutting-edge designs. However, their focus soon shifted towards a more significant challenge—electric vehicles (EVs). Recognizing the global shift towards sustainable transportation, Team Envision set their sights on developing an EV that could address Pakistan’s urban mobility needs.

Overcoming Challenges to Build the Future

Their latest creation, AZAAD-E, is a testament to their dedication and vision. Designed for urban environments, this four-wheel electric vehicle is engineered with several unique features tailored to Pakistan’s roads. “Our four-wheel Urban Electric Vehicle is designed with several unique features that make it particularly suitable for Pakistan’s urban environment,” explains Rizwan. The vehicle’s double wishbone suspension system ensures a smooth ride on uneven roads, while its independent suspension enhances handling, making it ideal for navigating crowded streets.

The journey to creating AZAAD-E was not without challenges. As an undergraduate team, securing funding was a significant hurdle. “The mission us students have decided to work on requires monetary and technical funds which goes until the end of the making,” shares team member Zainab Jibran. The team relied heavily on sponsorships, securing support from companies like Sindh Bank and Nixor College. They also faced technical difficulties, such as designing a motor controller and adapting to unique wheel specifications required by the competition.

A Vision for Pakistan’s Urban Mobility

Despite these obstacles, Team Envision persevered, creating a vehicle that is not only efficient but also safe and stylish. “For safety, we’ve mounted roll bars directly on the chassis, providing added protection in the event of a collision,” notes Rizwan. The vehicle also features advanced electrical safety systems, including a comprehensive battery management system, ensuring both reliability and safety.

Aesthetically, AZAAD-E sports a sleek, modern design that distinguishes it from older models, making it a perfect fit for Pakistan’s urban landscape. With their focus now on the future of electric vehicles, Team Envision is poised to lead the way in transforming transportation in Pakistan. “With the future of transportation clearly leaning towards electric vehicles, we’re introducing our latest creation… as a step towards bringing the concept of EVs to Pakistan,” says Rizwan.
