Nxtra by Airtel has taken a significant step towards sustainability by joining the RE100 initiative. This global campaign, led by the Climate Group and Carbon Disclosure Project, aims to drive corporate commitment to 100% renewable electricity. On Thursday, Nxtra announced its dedication to sourcing 100% renewable energy.
Leading the Way in Renewable Energy
Nxtra, the data centre division of Airtel, operates 12 large and 120 edge data centres, making it the largest network of data centres in India. CEO Ashish Arora emphasized the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility and its ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2031. Nxtra stands out as the only data centre organization in India to join RE100, and it is among just 14 Indian companies to reach this milestone.
Significant Renewable Energy Investment
Nxtra has already contracted 422,000 MWh of renewable energy. This substantial investment has led to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions for the fiscal year 2023-24. The company’s commitment to green energy policies and sustainable development aligns with the growing trends in the solar energy market and the broader energy market trends towards renewable energy sources.
Pioneering Green Energy Policies
By joining RE100, Nxtra showcases its leadership in adopting green energy policies and investing in solar technology and energy storage solutions. This move not only supports the global shift towards sustainable energy but also sets a precedent for other companies in the data centre industry.
Nxtra’s participation in RE100 highlights the importance of solar energy investment and the development of advanced energy storage systems, such as lithium batteries, to support the transition to renewable energy. This commitment reflects the broader solar market analysis and the increasing demand for sustainable energy solutions.
