In a groundbreaking achievement, the Northern Territory takes the lead in solar battery adoption, propelled by the success of the Territory Labor Government’s Home and Businesses and Battery Scheme (HBBS).
HBBS Milestones: Over 2000 Installations Mark a Turning Point
The HBBS marks a significant milestone, empowering over 2000 homes and businesses in the Territory with cutting-edge lithium battery storage. Over the past three years, the Territory has surpassed the national average, with more than 30% of rooftop solar systems incorporating lithium batteries—five times the national average.
Affordable Transition: HBBS Fuels Growth in Renewable Energy
Crafted for accessibility, the HBBS offers financial incentives of up to $5000 for solar and lithium battery system installations, facilitating a smooth transition. Since its launch in 2020, the program has allocated over $12 million, contributing $45 million to the Territory economy and fostering growth in the solar energy sector.
Growing Applications and Future Plans: Charting the Course for Solar Developments
Applications for the HBBS continue to climb, with 970 submissions in 2022-23. Looking ahead to 2023-24, an additional $3 million is dedicated to the program, ensuring more solar installations and fortifying the Territory’s solar energy landscape.
Chief Minister Eva Lawler underscores the Territory Labor Government’s dedication to affordable, cutting-edge solar technology, promoting a resilient solar power system. Minister for Renewables and Energy Kate Worden highlights the scheme’s pivotal role in achieving the 50% renewable solar energy target by 2030.
This surge in solar battery adoption not only underscores the Northern Territory’s commitment to sustainable solar energy solutions but also positions it as a national trailblazer in the solar energy transition.
