Daystar Power and Nigerian Breweries Collaborate on Groundbreaking Solar and Battery Storage Installation
In a groundbreaking partnership, Daystar Power, a leading provider of hybrid solar solutions in Africa, has joined forces with Nigerian Breweries to introduce a 4.2MWp solar plant and a 2MWh battery storage system. Positioned as one of Nigeria’s largest solar and battery storage projects for industrial manufacturing, this collaboration is set to reshape the energy landscape.
Solar Solution to Power Nigerian Breweries’ Operations
The hybrid solar installation is projected to generate 5,249 MWh of electricity annually, accounting for 42% of Nigerian Breweries’ daytime power consumption at its Lagos brewery. By integrating solar power, the initiative aims to reduce reliance on diesel generators, displacing an estimated 31.4 million liters of diesel and offsetting approximately 84,758 tons of CO2 over the project’s 20-year lifespan.
Decarbonization Commitment of Nigerian Breweries
As a subsidiary of Heineken, Nigerian Breweries is a prominent manufacturer in Nigeria, producing renowned beverages like Star Beer and Maltina. This collaboration aligns with Heineken’s ambitious goals to decarbonize production by 2030 and achieve a carbon-neutral value chain by 2040.
CEO Excitement and Environmental Responsibility
Jasper Graf von Hardenberg, CEO of Daystar Power, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, calling it a “milestone project” and highlighting the company’s pride in supporting Heineken’s renewable energy adoption. This initiative signifies a major stride towards sustainable energy practices and underscores the commitment of both entities to environmental responsibility.
This collaboration stands as a beacon of progress in Nigeria’s journey towards cleaner energy solutions, setting the stage for future advancements in the region’s renewable energy sector.
