Strategic Solar Partnership Initiated
National Storage Affiliates Trust (NSA) and Solar Landscape have forged a partnership to develop over 100 megawatts of solar capacity across NSA’s nationwide property holdings. This initiative spans approximately 8.5 million square feet of rooftop space suitable for community solar installations, positioning NSA to enhance its corporate sustainability objectives.
Nationwide Solar Development Plans
The agreement grants Solar Landscape exclusive rights to assess around 1,000 of NSA’s properties across 42 states and Puerto Rico. The focus is on harnessing community solar models to supply local homes and businesses with discounted clean energy, thereby promoting environmental benefits and energy cost reductions.
Economic and Community Impact
This collaboration, which requires no capital expenditure from NSA, allows Solar Landscape to develop, own, and operate the solar projects while making monthly lease payments to NSA. “This partnership underscores our commitment to sustainability and community value,” stated David Cramer, President and CEO of NSA. The projects aim to generate significant shareholder value by providing affordable clean energy to surrounding communities.
Commitment to Workforce Development
Solar Landscape is also dedicated to fostering career opportunities in the solar industry, particularly for historically disadvantaged communities. Their STEP-UP program, in collaboration with numerous national organizations, has trained over 2,500 individuals in solar technology, contributing to the growth of a skilled clean energy workforce.
Ongoing Collaborations and Future Prospects
Having collaborated since 2022, the companies are set to begin development on the initial sites soon. Solar Landscape CEO Shaun Keegan highlighted the multiple benefits of community solar, noting its potential to reduce carbon footprints, save on energy costs for residents, and create new revenue streams for property owners. The NSA community solar projects are poised to further the success of Solar Landscape’s STEP-UP program, especially following recent training initiatives in Chicago with the Hispanic American Construction Industry Association.
