On March 28th, the National Energy Group initiated the first batch of key projects for 2024 across four provinces and regions, with a total investment of ¥400 billion. Among the 80 key projects, there are 61 new energy projects, 3 coal projects, 1 heating project, 3 chemical projects, and 4 transportation projects.
Strategic Deployment and Project Highlights
These key projects are concentrated in provinces like Xinjiang, Qinghai, Hebei, and Ningxia, involving 26 subsidiary companies. They are characterized by significant investment, demonstrative features, and strong driving force, aligning closely with the requirements of developing new quality productivity. These projects hold vital significance in serving national strategies, focusing on regional development, deepening industrial synergy, emphasizing innovation leadership, and constructing demonstration projects.
Among these, the construction of infrastructure in Hami, Xinjiang, is part of the Xinjiang Hami Energy Integration and Innovation Base project. This project, planned by the National Energy Group, serves as a modern comprehensive energy industrial demonstration base for coal-to-oil and gas transformation, aiming to ensure national energy security and promote the high-end, diversified, and low-carbon development of the coal chemical industry.
Promoting Green Energy and Technological Innovation
The “Two Associations” comprehensive energy demonstration project in Bortala, Xinjiang, which includes coal-fired power generation of 1.32 million kilowatts and an initial photovoltaic capacity of 600,000 kilowatts, is among the first batch of demonstration projects included in the national “Two Associations” preliminary implementation plan. It is expected to effectively improve the energy supply structure in Xinjiang.
The Tongde Pumped Storage Power Station in Qinghai, with a pumping and storage capacity of 2.4 million kilowatts, along with the potential to integrate 7 million kilowatts of new energy, will utilize the Marbatush Water Power Station reservoir as the lower reservoir. This will significantly increase Qinghai Province’s regulation power capacity and promote local new energy development.
Transitioning Towards Sustainable Energy Solutions
The “Green Port Hydrogen City” new energy project in Cangzhou, Hebei, includes a photovoltaic capacity of 1 million kilowatts and supporting facilities for 50,000-ton-level green ammonia and green hydrogen. It is one of the projects in the third batch of projects planned for the Shacheng Desert, aiming to establish a large-scale integrated base for green energy, green chemicals, and green ports in the central and eastern regions.
The Yinchuan Smart Central Heating Project from the Daba Power Plant in Ningxia, providing 15.64 million GJ of heat annually over a distance of 75 kilometers, is the first integrated heating project in China combining source, station, load, and storage. It will play a positive role in meeting the heating demands of Yinchuan City and improving the local environmental quality.
