Clean Energy Initiative Powers Up in Northwest China
In a significant leap towards sustainable energy, a 900 MW photovoltaic project commenced operations on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in northwest China’s Qinghai Province. Managed by the China Three Gorges Corporation, this project serves as the second phase of an ultra-high-voltage power line, facilitating electricity transmission from Qinghai to central China’s Henan Province.
Strategic Location and Specifications
Situated in Gonghe County of Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, the photovoltaic project spans approximately 1,540 hectares at an altitude of 3,000 meters in the northeastern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. This strategic location capitalizes on the plateau’s abundance of clean energy resources, including water, wind, and solar power.
Environmental Impact and Sustainability
The newly operational project is projected to generate an average of 2.1 billion kWh of electricity annually. This achievement translates into significant environmental benefits, saving approximately 640,000 tonnes of standard coal and curbing carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 1.74 million tonnes each year.
