Trinasolar, a global leader in solar technology and energy storage solutions, has partnered with Casella Family Brands to inaugurate a 5.7MW solar farm near Yenda, New South Wales. This solar energy investment marks a significant milestone in Australia’s renewable energy landscape, especially within the beverage and wine industries.

Cutting-Edge Solar Technology and Energy Storage

The multi-million dollar solar farm comprises 8,730 Trinasolar low voltage Vertex 650-655W bifacial modules. These are mounted on approximately 100 TrinaTracker Vanguard 2P trackers. The farm generates 11.53GWh of electricity annually, fulfilling about 35% of the Yenda facility’s power needs. This facility processes and bottles the majority of Casella Family Brands’ portfolio, including the renowned [yellow tail] wine.

The project is the first in the Asia-Pacific region to fully integrate Vanguard 2P trackers with these large-format low voltage modules. This integration results in significant savings on electrical components and installation labor. It also reduces the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) by enabling more generation capacity on each tracker. Trinasolar’s innovative tracking algorithm, SuperTrack, optimizes panel tilt using AI, enhancing energy generation by over 3%.

Commitment to Sustainable Development

Casella Family Brands’ solar farm represents a paradigm shift towards sustainability in the beverage industry. In the 2020-21 financial year, Australia’s wine sector emitted more than 1.77 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent. Wine Australia’s goal is to reduce emissions by 42% by 2030 through increased renewable electricity use. The new solar farm is a crucial step for Casella Family Brands to cut its carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
