India and US Strengthen Clean Energy Collaboration for Sustainable Future

India and the US are accelerating their collaboration to boost clean energy innovation and ensure energy security. At the Strategic Clean Energy Partnership (SCEP) ministerial meeting, both nations discussed focused efforts on clean energy manufacturing and building diversified supply chains. The meeting, convened by US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm and India’s Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, highlighted energy trade’s pivotal role in national priorities.

Advancing Renewable Energy and Technology

Key progress has been made in advancing renewable energy, with both nations committed to accelerating clean energy technology development. The launch of the Renewable Energy Technology Action Platform (RETAP) aims to create actionable roadmaps for hydrogen, long-duration energy storage, offshore wind, and geothermal energy. The countries also announced collaboration on a National Centre for Hydrogen Safety and the second ‘International Conference on Green Hydrogen.’

Renewable Energy Grid Integration and Efficiency

Both sides stressed the importance of integrating renewable energy into national grids, highlighting advancements in energy storage and grid flexibility. The US and India also supported initiatives like modernizing India’s power distribution and smart metering deployment, alongside reforms in power markets and cybersecurity.

Collaboration in Transport Electrification

Further collaboration was announced to electrify India’s medium and heavy-duty vehicles, with a focus on implementing the PM eBus Sewa scheme for deploying 10,000 electric buses. The nations praised efforts toward sustainable transport and energy-efficient infrastructure, including Indian Railways’ target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2030.
