Hygenco Green Energies Partners with Mitsubishi Power for Green Hydrogen Projects

Hygenco Green Energies has formalized a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Mitsubishi Power to explore the deployment of green hydrogen and ammonia-fired gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power plants. This collaboration aims to deliver sustainable energy solutions across India and international markets, marking a significant development in the global energy transition.

Strategic Indo-Japan Partnership

The partnership between Hygenco and Mitsubishi Power reflects the growing strategic cooperation between India and Japan in the field of energy security and green energy technologies. Supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), this initiative seeks to reduce carbon emissions through advanced technology exchange and collaborative investments in the green energy sector.

JICA’s Chief Representative in India, Mr. SAITO Mitsunori, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in addressing climate change. “JICA is committed to supporting the development of green hydrogen technologies. This partnership exemplifies the international cooperation needed to promote sustainable growth,” he stated. JICA will continue to back this initiative through its co-creation platform, the Neev Fund.

Green Fuel Supply and Technological Synergy

Under this MoU, Hygenco will supply green fuel for Mitsubishi Power’s GTCC technology, targeting potential customers in India and globally. The company plans to develop and operate large-scale, commercially viable green hydrogen and green ammonia production facilities. These assets will be offered on a build-own-operate or gas-as-a-service model.

Hygenco’s CEO, Mr. Amit Bansal, highlighted the synergy between the two companies. “This collaboration will integrate Hygenco’s green fuel supply with Mitsubishi Power’s advanced technology, embodying the spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’–the world is one family,” he remarked. The partnership aims to decarbonize power generation and contribute to a sustainable energy future.

SBI Ventures Limited’s MD & CEO, Mr. Prem Prabhakar, whose Neev II Fund is an investor in Hygenco, stressed the importance of investing in green hydrogen and ammonia. “This partnership will pave the way for innovative and sustainable energy solutions, crucial for India’s energy security and environmental goals,” he said.

Mitsubishi Power’s Commitment to Decarbonization

Mitsubishi Power is actively developing hydrogen and ammonia firing technologies to decarbonize existing GTCC plants. The company is transitioning these plants from natural gas to hydrogen and ammonia, contributing to the global effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Mitsubishi Power has already been involved in multiple decarbonization projects worldwide, showcasing its leadership in this emerging market.
