Huawei’s Net Zero Carbon Intelligent Campus Project Earns Energy Globe World Award

Recognition for Pioneering Sustainable Energy Integration

Huawei’s Net Zero Carbon Intelligent Campus Project, also known as the Low Carbon and Intelligent Energy Industrial Park in Yancheng, has been honored with the 2023 Energy Globe World Award. Collaboratively developed by Yancheng Power Supply Company of State Grid Jiangsu and Huawei, this innovative project stands out for its exceptional integration of clean energy, constituting 85% of its total energy consumption and 100% of its electrical terminal energy consumption.

Notable Achievements

The Net Zero Carbon Intelligent Campus Project achieves an annual electricity savings of 3 million kWh and approximately 5600 tons reduction in carbon emissions. Recognitions for this initiative include the 2022 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Champion Prize. Dr. Anthony Hu Hao, Chief Expert of Huawei’s Electric Power Digitalization Business Unit, received acclaim for his exemplary leadership, delivering a speech at the award ceremony.

International Acclaim

The Energy Globe World Award is presented by a panel of organizations, including the Energy Globe Foundation, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, and the Federal Economic Chamber of Austria. Selected from over 2000 projects across 180 countries, Huawei’s project was the sole winner from China in 2023. The international jury praised the project for embracing five fundamental values: net-zero carbon energy supply, multi-energy coordination, optimal energy efficiency, digital empowerment, and cross-border innovation.

A Model for Global Carbon Neutrality

Led by Dr. Anthony Hu Hao, the award-winning project revolves around a carbon-neutral intelligent energy system and its T³ transformation model, focusing on energy, carbon neutrality, and digital transformation. Serving as a blueprint for ecological, low-carbon, secure, and efficient energy systems, the project aligns with university scenarios, assisting cities and countries in achieving carbon neutrality goals.

Multiple Accolades

In addition to the Energy Globe World Award, the project and its solution secured the Champion Prize at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) 2022 and were recognized as Top 10 Global Projects at the 2022 Paulson Prize for Sustainability. The project’s core theories, architectures, and models earned two awards for Best Paper and Best Report at the IEEE International Conference on Energy Internet and Integration of Energy Systems and the International Power and Energy Development Forum 2023.

Huawei remains committed to being a leading partner in the global electric power industry’s transition. Through scenario-based solutions for energy generation, transmission, transformation, distribution, and consumption, Huawei is instrumental in helping global electric companies achieve safe, efficient, eco-friendly, and innovative transformations. This commitment positions Huawei as a digital trailblazer in global energy transition and carbon neutrality goals.
