Discover how Garanti BBVA is combating climate change by installing solar panels on buildings and ATMs, reducing emissions.
Commitment to Sustainability
Garanti BBVA is reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability by installing solar panels on its Pendik Campus, Güneşli Service Building, and ATMs.
Significant Environmental Impact
This initiative aims to save 1 million TL and prevent 160 tons of carbon emissions annually, equivalent to the absorption capacity of 9,884 trees in nature. Pendik Campus and Güneşli Service Building will have installed capacities of 103KW and 193KW, generating 122MWh and 228MWh of energy annually, respectively.
Net Zero Banking Alliance Contributions
Aligning with its Net Zero Banking Alliance commitments, Garanti BBVA announced interim decarbonization targets for 2030. As the first Turkish bank to discontinue funding coal-related projects, it joined the UN-convened Net Zero Banking Alliance in 2021.
Expanding Solar Footprint
Solar panels have already been installed on 81 ATMs this year, generating an average of 150KWh per month and reaching approximately 60,000KWh by year-end. The bank plans to consume 40 to 50 percent of the energy generated by each ATM monthly.
Strategic Sustainability Efforts
Garanti BBVA Executive Vice President, Tuba Köseoğlu Okçu, emphasized that these solar installations align with the bank’s sustainability efforts. The bank has also installed solar panels on the Akdeniz and Bodrum branches and the Sivas Customer Communication Center, with a total installed capacity of approximately 400 kW.
Incorporating renewable energy into branches, ATMs, and buildings, Garanti BBVA is positioning itself as a leader in the sector’s pursuit of sustainable practices.
