Financial Relief for Agricultural Giants: New Measure Allocated to Cover Energy Costs

Government Initiative to Support Agricultural Giants

A new initiative aimed at covering the energy costs of the largest agricultural producers has been announced by Agriculture Minister Kiril Vatev. The measure, unrelated to post-war support in Ukraine, has undergone thorough deliberation with experts from GERB-UDF, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, and the Agriculture Ministry.

Financial Details and Aid Distribution

Minister Vatev clarified that BGN 39 million from the 2023 budget, remaining under the Ukrainian measure, will fund this aid. The assistance will cover 70 percent of the energy costs, requiring proper documentation. The remaining funds will be redistributed across other sectors.

Alignment with September Memorandum

Committee chairwoman Desislava Taneva emphasized that this new aid aligns with one of the points outlined in the Memorandum signed on September 20. The government’s commitment to addressing key issues in the agricultural sector remains evident through strategic financial allocations.

Concerns Raised by Small Livestock Farmers

Minister Vatev highlighted concerns raised by small livestock farmers who faced threats from organizers of a recent protest. The farmers were pressured to join the upcoming protest, scheduled for Thursday. The government aims to ensure a fair and supportive environment for all stakeholders in the agricultural community.

As the measure awaits Ministry of Finance notification, the proactive approach to address energy costs showcases the government’s commitment to sustaining the agricultural sector.
