ENGIE Romania and Environmental Platform Allocate RON 1.5 Million to Boost Green Initiatives in Bucharest

Strategic Partnership for Sustainability

The Environmental Platform for Bucharest, a pioneering initiative by the Bucharest Community Foundation, has forged a strategic alliance with ENGIE Romania to secure funding for green projects. ENGIE Romania has committed RON 1.5 million (approximately EUR 300,000) to support initiatives focused on energy efficiency, circular economy, biodiversity, and promoting agriculture near renewable energy sites.

Collaboration for Environmental Vision

The Environmental Platform for Bucharest serves as a collaborative hub, fostering partnerships among non-profits, public authorities, businesses, and citizens. The primary goal is to shape a shared environmental vision for the capital city.

Tackling Environmental Challenges

Addressing challenges outlined in a research report on Bucharest’s environmental state, the partnership aims to combat climate change vulnerabilities. The report identifies issues like air quality, urban congestion, low waste recycling rates, greenhouse gas-emitting activities, and energy-consuming structures.

Commitment to Environmental Projects

The platform commits to funding projects that tackle these challenges head-on. It pledges financial and logistical support for initiatives enhancing building energy efficiency, waste reduction, increased recycling, biodiversity promotion, and optimal utilization of resources.

Three-Fold Objectives

The collaboration with the Bucharest Community Foundation targets projects aligned with three main objectives: energy efficiency, biodiversity and circular economy, and solutions for utilizing land near photovoltaic and wind power plants.

Managed Funding Program

The Bucharest Community Foundation manages the funding program, offering applicants guidance through a detailed calendar, application forms, and an applicant’s guide, accessible on the program’s website.

Environmental Platform’s Initiatives

Initiated by the Bucharest Community Foundation and ING Bank Romania, the Environmental Platform for Bucharest focuses on collectively shaping an environmental vision for Bucharest and Ilfov. Key initiatives include the Research Report on the State of the Environment in Bucharest and pilot projects related to the Văcărești Natural Park, aerlive.ro, and Verde citadin, funded since 2021.

Impactful Community Foundation

The Bucharest Community Foundation, part of a national movement with 16 other community foundations across Romania, has played a crucial role in financing over 800 projects and scholarships in Bucharest and Ilfov, amounting to EUR 4.7 million in 12 years.
