Advancing Clean Energy: Avangrid’s Inaugural Wind Farm in the Sooner State

Avangrid, Inc. (NYSE: AGR), a prominent sustainable energy company within the Iberdrola Group, is set to establish its initial renewable energy venture in Oklahoma. The Pontotoc Wind project, a 147.5 MW wind farm featuring 33 turbines, is poised to power 40,000 homes in Pontotoc County, significantly amplifying Avangrid’s U.S. presence to 25 states.

Clean Power for the Community

Pedro Azagra, Avangrid CEO, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “We are thrilled to be developing our first renewable energy project in Oklahoma, delivering clean, renewable wind power to the Pontotoc County community along with jobs and local investment.”

Pontotoc Wind is projected to generate approximately 500,000 MWh of power annually, effectively supplying energy to more than 40,000 homes.

Economic and Environmental Contributions

Construction is slated to commence in 2024, generating over 200 jobs. Avangrid anticipates that the project will contribute to the local area for over two decades, fostering employment to support wind farm operations and other community investments. The wind farm is expected to provide an estimated $25 million in property taxes over its lifespan, benefiting local schools and services.

Strategic Collaboration with the U.S. Air Force

Avangrid collaborated closely with the U.S. Air Force to meticulously site the project, ensuring it aligns with the Air Force’s mission.

Avangrid’s Renewable Leadership

With a robust 8.6 GW of installed renewable capacity, Avangrid stands as the third-largest renewable energy operator in the U.S. Upon the project’s completion, Avangrid will extend its operations or assets across half the country.
