The Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 witnessed a significant boost to India’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, as leading automakers revealed their comprehensive EV roadmaps. MG Motors, a key player, showcased its EV portfolio, emphasizing a substantial investment of Rs 7,000 crore in Gujarat.
MG Motors’ Commitment
MG Motors outlined plans to further strengthen the local EV ecosystem by enhancing localization, introducing skilling initiatives, and expanding production capacity. Additionally, the company explores local manufacturing of EV components, considering the establishment of a battery assembly unit, cell manufacturing, and hydrogen fuel cell technology deployment through collaborations.
Maruti Suzuki’s Expansion
Maruti Suzuki, in a strategic move, announced a Rs 3,200 crore investment for establishing a fourth production line in its subsidiary, Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited. This expansion aims to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles in the future, showcasing the automaker’s commitment to the EV segment.
Wardwizard’s Innovations
Wardwizard Innovations & Mobility took the stage to accelerate EV growth, presenting innovative concepts under the brand “Joy e-bike” for electric two-wheelers and “Joy e-rik” for electric commercial vehicles. The company showcased high-speed electric scooters, electric commercial vehicles, and a prototype hydrogen-based fuel cell powered scooter.
Substantial Investments and Collaborations
Wardwizard recently inked MoUs worth Rs 2,000 crore with the Gujarat government. The agreements focus on research and development of electric two and three-wheelers, setting up a motor assembly facility in Vadodara, lithium cell production, and the development of ancillaries for raw material manufacturing.
