Enhancing Energy Resiliency and Security
Ameresco, Inc. (NYSE: AMRC), a leading cleantech integrator specializing in energy efficiency and renewable energy, has announced the successful completion of Colorado’s largest distributed Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in collaboration with United Power, Inc. This milestone underscores significant advancements in utility infrastructure, enhancing both resiliency and energy security as the energy market trends towards sustainability.
Strategic Deployment of Advanced Battery Arrays
The BESS assets, designed to provide 78.3 MW and 313.34 MWh of battery storage capacity, are strategically positioned across multiple sites within United Power’s service territory. Five sites are operational, with three more expected to be in service by the end of the summer. These advanced battery arrays enable United Power to enhance load balancing and integrate renewable resources seamlessly.
“The use of batteries on our distribution network is essential to a resilient and responsive power grid,” said Mark A. Gabriel, President and CEO of United Power. “These battery energy storage systems allow us to balance our power needs throughout the day and incorporate local renewables more efficiently.”
Partnership and Technological Innovation
Ameresco’s assets consist of four 11.75 MW and four 7.84 MW battery energy storage systems across eight substation sites in Adams, Broomfield, and Weld counties. The integration of Stem’s AI-driven clean energy software ensures efficient operation and maintenance of these systems. This technology allows United Power to store and dispatch power during high consumption periods, optimizing energy resources and enhancing grid resilience.
“Partnering with United Power on these transformational battery energy storage systems has been incredible,” said Jonathan Mancini, Senior Vice President at Ameresco. “Energy storage plays a crucial role in enhancing grid reliability, optimizing renewable energy utilization, and fostering a resilient energy future.”
Celebrating the Completion
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at United Power’s Bromley Substation in Brighton, CO, to celebrate the completion of the BESS assets. This event marked a significant milestone in the collaboration between Ameresco and United Power, showcasing their commitment to advancing green energy policies and solar energy investment.
