Ameresco and Sunel Commence Construction on 300MW Solar Park Portfolio for Sonnedix in the UK

Framingham, MA – Ameresco, a leading cleantech integrator, and Sunel Group, an international energy projects developer, announce the initiation of construction on Sonnedix’s 300MW solar PV park projects across the UK.

Pioneering Clean Energy

Ameresco and Sunel are embarking on the construction of multiple solar PV parks in England on behalf of global renewable energy producer Sonnedix. The portfolio comprises five ground-mounted solar PV parks, including Cowley Complex, Gonerby Solar, Winkburn Solar Farm, Gammaton Solar Farm, and Lawns Solar Farm. The projects aim to generate approximately 300,000 MWh of renewable electricity annually.

Key Project Players

Sonnedix, the owner of the portfolio, collaborates with Ameresco Sunel Energy Ltd, a joint venture between Ameresco and Sunel, as the design-build partner. The projects are already contracted under the UK government’s Contracts for Difference scheme, guaranteeing electricity prices through 15-year contracts with the Low Carbon Contracts Company.

A Commitment to Sustainability

Britta MacIntosh, Ameresco’s Executive Vice President, highlights the significance of solar energy solutions in achieving decarbonization goals. The combined solar parks, once operational, are poised to power 85,000 UK homes and reduce 58,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually.

Forward-Looking Collaboration

Construction on the solar portfolio is expected to be completed by early 2025. Konstantinos Zygouras, CEO of Sunel, expresses pleasure in collaborating with Ameresco on Sonnedix’s solar park projects, emphasizing their commitment to world-class renewable energy projects that benefit local communities and the environment.

Global Renewable Energy Expansion

Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix, emphasizes the role of the UK projects in contributing to the country’s clean energy supply and energy security. The collaboration with Ameresco and Sunel aligns with Sonnedix’s dedication to accelerating the energy transition.
