The Algarve solar park, featuring over 64,554 bifacial panels, is now operational, marking a significant milestone in renewable energy for the region. This project represents a substantial investment of 30 million euros.
Key Details of the Solar Park
With an installed power capacity of 37 megawatts (MW) and an annual production capacity of 56.84 GWh, the solar park is a major step towards renewable energy in Portugal. The project is part of the penultimate batch of projects awarded to Iberdrola in the 2019 auction and is designed to generate enough energy to power approximately 19,000 households. By doing so, it will avoid the emission of more than 21,000 tons of CO2 annually.
Significant Contribution to Renewable Energy
Alejandra Reyna, General Director of Iberdrola Renováveis Portugal, emphasized the importance of the project. “The completion of two more Photovoltaic Plants represents an important milestone on the path towards the decarbonization of the economy,” Reyna stated. She highlighted how the project reinforces renewable energy production capacity in Portugal and contributes to socio-economic development. This aligns with national and global goals for reducing emissions and promoting energy autonomy.
