Streamlining Solar Implementation
The Ministry of Power is set to enhance the Electricity (Rights of Consumers) Rules, aiming to accelerate solar PV system installations. As per the proposed reforms, consumers must provide an installation certificate to their distribution licensee, ensuring connection agreements and meter installations are finalized within a swift fifteen-day timeframe.
Addressing Meter Accuracy Concerns
To tackle persistent meter accuracy issues, the ministry’s regulations mandate distribution licensees to conduct meter tests within thirty days of receiving a complaint. In case of a consumer disputing their meter reading, an additional meter must be installed within three days for verification.
Promoting Rooftop Solar Adoption
In a significant move to boost rooftop solar adoption, the amendments eliminate the need for a technical feasibility study for installations up to 10 KW. This simplifies the process, and any infrastructure enhancements required for such installations will be covered by the distribution licensee.
Inclusivity in Connectivity
The proposed rules include provisions for individual electricity connections in group housing societies and separate connections for electric vehicle (EV) charging systems. This reflects the government’s supportive approach to electric mobility and enhancing consumer convenience. The reforms are poised to create a more efficient and consumer-friendly environment in the solar energy landscape.
