Schneider Electric Welcomes Google, ASM, and HP as Global Sponsors in Catalyze Program for Semiconductor Supply Chain Decarbonization

Schneider Electric, a leader in energy management and automation, announced that Google, ASM, and HP have joined the Catalyze program as global sponsors, aiming to expedite renewable energy adoption across the semiconductor value chain and IT supply landscape.

Growing Momentum for Catalyze Program

Originally launched in July with Intel and Applied Materials as sponsors, the Catalyze program gains momentum with the addition of three major technology players—Google, ASM, and HP. The announcement aligns with the ongoing COP28 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai.

Collective Action for Renewable Energy Transition

Catalyze encourages collaboration among semiconductor industry suppliers to transition to renewable energy sources. Participants commit to decarbonization and collectively procure renewable energy, leveraging their combined purchasing power to make substantial strides in reducing Scope 3 emissions.

Significant Impact on Carbon Footprint

A recent study by the SEMI Semiconductor Climate Consortium revealed that the semiconductor industry’s carbon footprint reached 500Mt of CO2 in 2021, with 16% originating from the supply chain. By guiding suppliers toward lower-carbon energy sources and supporting various decarbonization actions, the Catalyze program aims to significantly impact the industry’s overall Scope 3 emissions.

Jean-Pascal Tricoire, Chairman of Schneider Electric, expressed delight in welcoming the new sponsors, emphasizing the program’s role in addressing Scope 3 emissions challenges.

Commitment to Sustainable Practices

Representatives from Google, HP, and ASM highlighted their commitment to carbon-free semiconductor manufacturing and the urgency for collaborative industry action. The Catalyze program serves as a crucial platform for companies to unite, making a collective impact on global emissions.

The Catalyze program focuses on combining energy purchasing power, facilitating suppliers’ participation in utility-scale power purchase agreements, expanding participation across the IT supply landscape, and raising awareness of renewable energy availability in specific global regions.
