Prime Minister Discusses Policies to Boost Rooftop Solar
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a government meeting on September 23 to discuss the development of rooftop solar power in Vietnam. The meeting focused on a draft decree outlining mechanisms and policies aimed at promoting rooftop solar energy, according to a report from the Government News.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has been tasked with submitting the draft decree for the government’s consideration and approval next week. The goal of this decree is to harness Vietnam’s solar potential, which is among the highest in the ASEAN region.
Vietnam’s Solar Potential and Growth
Vietnam’s technical potential for solar power is estimated to be up to 1,646 GW. The country’s solar power sector has expanded rapidly, with an additional capacity of 17.6 GW recorded in 2021. Notably, Vietnam is home to several large-scale solar projects, including the 600MW Dau Tieng Solar Power Complex in Tay Ninh province, which is the largest solar project in Southeast Asia.
The Ninh Thuan Province, known as the epicenter of Vietnam’s solar energy boom, also hosts significant solar projects, such as the Trung Nam Group’s solar farm, one of the largest in the region.
