New polling reveals that voters in key swing states overwhelmingly support increased U.S. energy production, expressing frustration with the Biden-Harris administration’s energy policies. The survey, conducted by Morning Consult for the American Petroleum Institute (API), highlights growing concerns about inflation and its connection to the administration’s energy and environmental strategies.
Rising Inflation Concerns
Inflation remains a top issue for voters in battleground states, including Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. According to the poll, 91% to 94% of voters in these states view inflation as a significant problem. Many voters directly attribute rising costs to what they see as impractical energy policies from the White House. Nearly 60% of Americans blame the current administration for increasing inflation.
API President and CEO Mike Sommers emphasized the importance of reinforcing U.S. energy production to address these concerns. “With geopolitical tensions rising and inflation remaining a top concern, we need policies that reinforce the role of American energy on the world stage and support access to the affordable, reliable energy consumers need,” Sommers said.
Strong Support for U.S. Energy Independence
The survey shows that voters across all seven swing states strongly favor boosting domestic oil and natural gas production. In Georgia, 88% of respondents believe that producing more energy in the U.S. could help lower costs for consumers. In Pennsylvania, a critical swing state, 85% of voters support increased drilling, despite Vice President Kamala Harris’s previous opposition to fracking.
Moreover, voters see energy independence as essential for national security. Over 80% of respondents in all surveyed states believe that producing oil and natural gas domestically helps protect the U.S. from foreign adversaries.
Opposition to EV Mandates
Voters in these states also reject the administration’s electric vehicle (EV) mandates and the push to phase out petroleum engines. In Michigan, 80% of respondents oppose government mandates restricting consumer choice, including bans on new gasoline, diesel, and hybrid vehicles. Similar opposition is seen in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, with 78% and 77% of voters, respectively, against such mandates.
As the Biden-Harris administration faces growing criticism over its energy policies, the results of this poll suggest that energy production and inflation will be central issues in the upcoming election, particularly in the critical swing states.
