REA and Havenhill Synergy to Deploy 250MW Decentralised Energy

Landmark MoU to Transform Nigeria’s Energy Sector

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) of Nigeria and Havenhill Synergy Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deploy up to 250MW of Decentralised Renewable Energy (DRE). This strategic partnership aims to enhance Nigeria’s solar energy market and address current energy market trends.

Expanding Renewable Energy Access

REA Managing Director Abba Aliyu emphasized the significance of the MoU, describing it as a landmark achievement. “The Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCOs) model provides developers with a platform to become utility companies and attract investment to deploy mini grids,” Aliyu stated. He highlighted that these developers have the capacity to deliver and manage large portfolios of solar energy projects, ensuring scalability and sustainability. This collaboration underscores REA’s commitment to rolling out the RESCOs model, fostering green energy policies and developments.

Diverse Energy Solutions

Under this MoU, Havenhill will deploy and operate up to 250MW of DRE projects. These projects will include interconnected mini-grids (IMGs), isolated mini-grids, commercial and industrial (C&I) solutions, and agricultural solutions. These initiatives aim to improve energy access in rural and peri-urban areas, contributing significantly to Nigeria’s solar energy investment and market analysis.

Commitment to Energy Access

Havenhill Synergy’s Chief Executive, Olusegun Odunaiya, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing the critical role of electricity in the company’s infrastructure. “Havenhill is committed to enhancing energy access. With our track record in the energy sector and our footprints in the commercial and industrial sectors, we will collaborate effectively with REA to fulfill this mandate and make Nigeria a better place to live,” Odunaiya stated. This collaboration reflects Havenhill’s dedication to driving solar technology and energy storage solutions, including lithium batteries, to support Nigeria’s renewable energy goals.

The partnership between REA and Havenhill marks a significant step towards sustainable energy development in Nigeria. By leveraging local expertise and fostering investment, this initiative aims to provide reliable and cost-effective solar energy solutions, contributing to the country’s green energy policies and long-term energy security.
