Federal and Provincial Governments Unite for Solar Energy Transition
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has unveiled a landmark initiative to solarize agricultural tube wells in Balochistan. The agreement, signed between the Federal and Balochistan governments in Quetta, marks a significant step towards green energy adoption.
Massive Solarization Project
The project aims to convert around 28,000 agricultural tube wells from electricity to solar energy. The Federal Government will cover 70% of the total project cost of 55 billion rupees, while the Balochistan Government will contribute the remaining 30%. Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that this initiative will save approximately 90 billion rupees annually by reducing reliance on conventional energy sources.
Benefits for Farmers and Economy
Solarizing these tube wells will ensure an uninterrupted water supply to farmers, boosting agricultural productivity in the region. Additionally, the project will significantly reduce energy costs, making farming more sustainable and economically viable. The first phase will focus on Balochistan, with plans to expand the initiative nationwide, potentially saving 3.5 billion dollars annually on imported fuel.
Educational and Developmental Opportunities
Prime Minister Sharif announced a 10% quota for Balochistan students to receive professional training in China, funded by the government. Another 10% quota will allow students to gain IT training under Huawei’s programs. These initiatives aim to empower Balochistan’s youth, equipping them with skills to contribute to the province’s development.
Commitment to Balochistan’s Progress
Highlighting the Federal Government’s commitment, funds have been allocated in the federal budget for establishing Danish Schools in Balochistan. The Prime Minister expressed confidence that Governor Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, and the provincial cabinet will continue to support the region’s development. He assured continued efforts for Balochistan’s prosperity.
