Decreasing Solar Panel Costs
Despite increased demand during the summer season, solar panel prices in Pakistan have continued to drop, reaching as low as Rs40 per watt. Dealers report an average price of Rs37 per watt, marking a significant decrease attributed to abundant supply in the market.
Reasons Behind Price Drop
The decline, amounting to a 30 percent reduction over six months, stems from a surplus of solar panels flooding the market. With escalating power tariffs, a growing number of residential and commercial consumers are opting for solar energy systems to generate electricity from sunlight.
Government’s Response to Solar Power Tax Speculations
Addressing concerns about potential taxation on solar power, the Power Division refuted claims of imposing a fixed tax. In a statement, the division clarified that neither the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) nor the Power Division had proposed such a tax to the government.
Ensuring Solar Energy Accessibility
Despite challenges in negotiating with Independent Power Plants amidst increased solar adoption, the government remains committed to facilitating the transition to renewable energy sources. The clarification aims to reassure consumers and stakeholders regarding the future of solar energy policies in Pakistan.
As Pakistan embraces solar energy as a viable alternative to traditional electricity sources, the declining prices signal a positive trend towards greater accessibility and affordability in the solar market.
