US Enterprises Eye $8 Billion Investment in Vietnam’s Clean Energy Landscape

A delegation led by US Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, Mr. Jose W. Fernandez, has disclosed plans for 15 US enterprises to invest a substantial $8 billion in Vietnam’s clean energy sector.

High-Level Meeting and Cooperation Commitments

During a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Hanoi on January 25, Mr. Fernandez emphasized the US commitment to fostering cooperation with Vietnam in the transition to clean energy and the exploration of essential minerals.

Vietnam’s Semiconductor Potential Recognized

Mr. Fernandez acknowledged Vietnam’s significant potential in semiconductors and pledged ongoing US support for the development of a semiconductor ecosystem. This support includes collaboration in human resources training and the promotion of semiconductor trading.

Prime Minister’s Response and Vision

Prime Minister Chinh welcomed the investment proposals and highlighted Vietnam’s ongoing initiatives, including the training of 50,000-100,000 high-quality human resources in the semiconductor field. He also emphasized the completion of legal foundations for the renewable energy sector and planning in the field of rare earths, aiming to create a conducive environment for attracting investments.

The Prime Minister urged the US to broaden cooperation across various sectors, emphasizing emerging areas such as innovation, artificial intelligence, green transition, and semiconductors.
