Driving Sustainability and Economic Growth
The Government of Canada is accelerating the electric vehicle (EV) transition, supporting the deployment of 56 new EV chargers in Halifax. Switching to EVs not only saves money for families but also reduces pollution, offering a win-win solution. EVs bring about economic opportunities, creating manufacturing jobs across Canada along the EV value chain.
Government Investment for Widespread Charging Infrastructure
Julie Dabrusin, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, announced a federal investment of $980,000 for the Halifax Regional Municipality. The funding will facilitate the installation of 46 Level 2 and 10 Level 3 fast chargers at key locations, creating a robust charging network across the Halifax region.
A Step Closer to Coast-to-Coast Charging Network
The initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to build a coast-to-coast-to-coast network of charging stations, encouraging EV adoption. With over 43,000 chargers installed nationwide, the government is actively promoting electric-powered transportation.
Spring 2024: Kickstarting EV Charger Installation
The installation of the 56 chargers is scheduled to commence in spring 2024, providing EV drivers with convenient charging options. Canadians planning their EV journeys can easily map out routes using Natural Resources Canada’s electric charger and alternative fueling stations locator.
Federal Funding Fuels Sustainable Transportation
The federal funding for this project comes through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program. Aligned with the Electric Vehicle Availability Standard, this investment aims to accelerate zero-emission vehicle production, contributing to the national target of achieving all vehicle sales as zero-emission by 2035. The initiative signifies a significant step towards a sustainable and emission-free transportation future.
