The Energy Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs has announced the initiation of an incentive program set to begin on January 1, 2024. The program aims to motivate consumers to purchase energy-efficient gas appliances, specifically gas heaters and stoves meeting Level 1 or 2 energy-saving standards.
Incentive Criteria
The Level 1 standard mandates a thermal efficiency of 88 percent or higher, while the Level 2 standard requires a thermal efficiency between 83 and 88 percent. Under this initiative, each residence is eligible to apply for subsidies for one heater and one stove.
Financial Incentives
The program allocates up to NT$400 million in incentives, offering subsidies ranging from NT$1,000 to NT$3,000 per appliance. The subsidy period extends from January 1 to April 30, 2024, and it is estimated to support the purchase of approximately 230,000 appliances.
Application Process
Applicants are required to submit an application form, valid ID, a bank passbook, an electricity bill reflecting the appliance’s installation address, and a purchase receipt via registered mail. An online application option is also available through a dedicated website, offering information on subsidy procedures, product details, and application status inquiries.
Extension to Electronic Appliances
The Energy Administration plans to extend the subsidy program to replace old electronic appliances, focusing on air conditioners and refrigerators meeting Level 1 energy-efficiency standards. Appliances purchased in 2023 and 2024 are eligible for a subsidy of NT$3,000. The program is expected to allocate up to NT$2 billion, benefiting around 640,000 appliance purchases.
Combined Benefits
When combined with a commodity tax rebate program from the Ministry of Finance, consumers have the potential to receive up to NT$5,000 for each air conditioner or refrigerator purchased. Applicants for electronic appliances must include a recycling slip from the Ministry of Environment to confirm proper recycling.
This comprehensive initiative aligns with national goals for energy efficiency and consumer support, fostering a more sustainable and eco-friendly approach to household appliances.
