32 MW Solar Plant in Una to be Operational in 2 Months: Announcement by Himachal CM

In a recent statement, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu shared exciting news about the progress of the 32 MW Pekhubela solar power project in Una district. He declared that the project is on track to be commissioned within the next two months.

Key Environmental Impact and Economic Contributions

The Pekhubela solar power project is expected to play a pivotal role in addressing the state’s power requirements while making a substantial impact on carbon emission reduction. It is projected to generate an impressive 66.10 million units of electricity annually, significantly contributing to the state’s economic growth.

Employment Opportunities for Locals

Aside from its environmental benefits, the project aims to create employment opportunities for the local population. The initiative aligns with the state’s commitment to becoming a green energy hub by March 31, 2026.

Project Details and Construction Timeline

Spanning 59 hectares, the Pekhubela solar power project involves the installation of 82,656 solar modules. Chief Minister Sukhu had laid the foundation stone on December 2, setting a completion deadline for the first week of February 2024. The project is part of the broader vision to establish a 500 MW solar power project within two years, with Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) spearheading the effort.

HPPCL’s Ambitious Solar Power Plans

HPPCL has been tasked with overseeing the installation of a 500 MW solar power project. Currently managing 3,275 MW of hydroelectric and solar power projects, the corporation has completed four projects of 281 MW capacity. Additionally, five projects totaling 690 MW are under construction, with plans for four 272 MW projects in progress.

Green Energy Integration for Employment Generation

In an innovative move, the state government is considering integrating green energy with employment generation under the Rs 680 crore Rajiv Gandhi Swarojgar start-up scheme. As part of this initiative, a 40 percent subsidy will be offered to young individuals in the state for establishing solar power projects ranging from 100 KW to one MW capacity. This forward-thinking approach not only promotes the use of green energy but also contributes significantly to environmental preservation and creates self-employment opportunities.

As Himachal Pradesh continues to make strides in the renewable energy sector, the Pekhubela solar power project stands as a testament to the state’s commitment to a sustainable and greener future.
